Since 2019, First Student has deployed over 230 electric school buses and now we are proud to announce that we have reached another major milestone by driving one million electric miles.
“As the leader in school bus electrification, completing our first one million miles showcases the immediate impact of our efforts to fuel a clean, sustainable future for our children,” First Student Head of Electrification Kevin L. Matthews said. “Our internal team of EV and consulting experts is creating a pathway of innovation benefiting communities across North America.”
Did you know that replacing one diesel bus with an electric bus can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 54,000 pounds each year? Electric school buses lower emissions that affect and impact the health of our students, communities and planet as they have zero tailpipe emissions. Beyond air pollution, electric school buses reduce noise pollution. That means we’re creating a healthier school bus experience for our students and drivers.
We are pleased to report that First Student has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 12 million pounds. That’s the equivalent of 3.75 pounds of CO2 for every mile driven. Reducing our carbon footprint by over 3,750,000 pounds is something to cheer about!
Our goal is to electrify 30,000 school buses by 2035 and we are well on our way. We have 10-15 EVs delivered each month, over 380 EVs approved to be ordered and we are assessing over 1,000 more. As a result, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 460,000 tons.
First Student is committed to providing cleaner transportation options for the districts we serve and for all districts through our EV consulting services, therefore creating better experiences for all students and communities.
