School. For nine months out of the year, it’s an important part of a child’s life. For many children, nothing symbolizes the start and end of every school day more than the bright yellow school bus. Getting to and from school is a time to create friendships and memories that remain long into adulthood.
As a means to highlight the school bus experience, we have organized an annual art contest for some of our district partners to help us communicate the idea that Happiness Starts with Yellow.® Students are encouraged to use their imaginations to convey what they associate with happiness while riding the bus. First Student will select a winning entry from a participating district and that student’s classroom will receive $1,000 to put toward classroom supplies.
“Nothing symbolizes the start and end of every school day more than the yellow school bus,” said First Student President Dennis R. Maple. “We recognize the important role we play in each child’s school day, and through this artwork contest, we get a chance to see what riding a First Student bus means to the students we serve.”
