Thousands of students in the Providence Public School District will be riding on new school buses this school year. First Student is adding more than 70 new buses to its Providence fleet.
The 72-passenger Thomas Built school buses feature an enlarged front windshield, lessening obstructions and increasing a driver’s panoramic view of the road. A low sloping hood, low instrument panel and A-pillar windows provide a sleek, modern look while increasing passenger and driver safety.
“These new buses represent the commitment to excellence between First Student and the Providence Public School District,” said First Student Senior Vice President Jim Castelli. “As the leading provider of school transportation solutions in North America, we are committed to ensuring that our fleet meets our high safety standards and is technologically advanced.”
First Student will also install additional safety features on the buses, including GPS tracking systems, the Child Check-Mate® electronic reminder system designed to ensure no child is left unattended on a bus and crossing gates to allow children to cross in front of the bus at a safe distance.
For more than 40 years, First Student has partnered with the Providence School District to provide safe and reliable transportation to nearly 10,000 students every school day.
