First Student Honored for Hiring Veterans

February 3, 2012

CINCINNATI — First Student Inc., the largest provider of school transportation in North America, answers the call of duty to help soldiers find jobs in Missouri. Governor Jay Nixon recently recognized the company with a Flag of Freedom Award as part of his administration’s Show-Me-Heroes initiative. First Student was honored for hiring military veterans returning from overseas.

“We recognize the value these men and women bring to our company and the community,” said Mike Shedor, First Student area general manager. They deserve our utmost respect, admiration and support. Unemployment is one battle these soldiers should not have to fight.”

Since 2010, when the initiative was introduced, more than 1,700 companies in Missouri, including First Student, have pledged to help veterans in their job search. First student is proud to have welcomed veterans into the ranks at our locations in Grandview, Columbia, Parkville, Kansas City and St. Joseph.
