CINCINNATI— The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey recently recognized First Student driver Latoya Walston with a Citizen Hero Award. The award is presented to individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty in their everyday lives. Walston was honored for safely evacuating students after a car struck her bus in May 2013. Walston remained calm and focused as she comforted the students during the incident and led them to safety.
“Our drivers place the safety of the students they transport above all else,” said Margo Sadowy, First Student Location Manager. “We are proud of how Latoya put her training into action when it mattered most. She is dedicated to the students she transports, and we are pleased Latoya was recognized for her actions.”
Walston transports students for the Burlington Township School District. She joined the First Student Berlin team in 2009.
Walston received the award during a ceremony May 15 in Delran, New Jersey.
