A simple visit request turned into a school-wide bus safety presentation. In late May, First Student Location #12416 in West Hartford, CT was invited by pre-school teacher Ms. Bonnie Schneider to visit Solomon Schechter Day School. She wanted to educate her students on school bus safety. When Ms. Schneider contacted Location Manager Anthony Pacheco about a site visit, she mentioned that she just completed a lesson on transportation. She thought it would be wonderful to have her students see a school bus up close. She also commented that her students were mesmerized by school buses arriving and departing. Anthony accepted the invitation and informed his team about the event. After the visit was confirmed, other teachers let the location know they wanted to included their students as well. Anthony and his team, Safety Trainers Ivayda Rodiguez, Alexis Baez, Jaime Bonilla and Channel Williams, as well as Location Safety Manager Kim McLaughlin, presented to an audience of more than 50 students. During the hour-long event, students took turns boarding the bus. They heard about bus safety, signed the safety pledge form, took pictures with Safety Dog and received a “Safety Dog” gift bag. “What an incredible day,” said Anthony. “I don’t know who was more excited – the students, teachers, Safety Dog or members from my team. The students were curious and so eager to learn. Everyone had a great time and the students left the event with a clear understanding of what they need to do to stay safe while riding the bus.”
