In Plymouth, Mass., our First Student location was part of the fifth annual Touch-A-Truck event. Sponsored by the local YMCA, Touch-A-Truck brings fire, police, emergency and construction vehicles together in one location for members of the community to explore. For the first time, event organizers added a school bus and First Student was invited to participate. Location Manager Joel H.S. Coffman was eager to be involved and also provided a bus to help shuttle participants to and from the YMCA and a local school. The money raised during the fifth annual Touch-A-Truck event will help subsidize the cost of YMCA summer camps and after-school programs for underprivileged children. Seven-year veteran driver Dena Donahue was on-site with the bus to help children and parents as they boarded. She spoke to guests about bus safety. “There were a lot of parents and future students walking in and sitting on the bus. There were more than 300 parents and children in and out of the bus during the three hour event,” said Joel.
