Local first responders to simulate emergency scenario as part of training event.

CINCINNATI — On Sunday, Sept. 26, the New Milford Ambulance Corp. will utilize three First Student buses as part of a large-scale emergency training session in New Milford, NJ. The drill involves participants from four area hospitals, as well as local fire and ambulance first responders. The training event will take at Elm and Main Streets beginning at 8 a.m.

“We are pleased to assist our local emergency services with this drill,” said First Student Region Safety Manager Nick DeSantis. “The safety and security of the students we transport to and from school each day is our core value, and we fully support those organizations who strive to ensure the safety of our community.”

Safety training is not new to North America’s largest student transportation provider. All First Student drivers receive more than 50hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel training before transporting any students. The instruction includes such topics as student behavioral management, bus safety and emergency procedures.

In addition to state and school district-mandated training, First Student also conducts monthly in-service meetings throughout the year to discuss various safety topics as well as review company policies and procedures. Drivers also must follow all state regulations and school district guidelines governing the operation of a school bus.
