Once a year the top school bus drivers from across North America participate in the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition. Hosted by the National School Transportation Association (NSTA), this is one of the most important events in the school bus industry where drivers have the opportunity to demonstrate their professionalism, skill, and dedication to pupil transportation.
The event allows drivers to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through a written test and a driving test. There are also various categories of competition, including conventional, transit or small bus. Qualifying begins at the local level. Winners of local events go on to compete at the state or provincial level. The best of the best are then invited to the International Safety Competition hosted by the NSTA.
This July, fourteen First Student drivers were among those competing for top honors and recognition. They truly exemplify our core values of setting the highest standards and being dedicated to safety.
