Company currently hiring experienced drivers and staff members to join team.
CINCINNATI — The Port Huron Area Schools in Michigan has selected First Student, Inc., the nation’s leader in student transportation, to provide school transportation for the students in its district. The three-year contract begins with the 2011-2012 school year. First Student is currently interviewing district drivers and local residents to join its transportation staff in Port Huron.
“We are pleased that the Port Huron Area Schools have chosen First Student to provide safe and reliable transportation for the district,” said Roger Moore, First Student senior vice president, Great Lakes Region. “We are committed to safety and excellent customer service, and we look forward to working with the district, students and community for many years to come.”
First Student is in the process of adding additional safety features to each of the local school buses. First Student’s Port Huron buses will include GPS tracking systems which allow the company to know the speed and location of each bus at any given time, the Child Check-Mate electronic reminder system designed to ensure no child is left unattended on a bus, and crossing gates to allow children to cross in front of the bus at a safe distance.
To ensure the buses are operating in top condition, First Student performs regularly scheduled and ongoing vehicle maintenance checks. Each bus follows a stringent daily, monthly and annual vehicle maintenance program. Each driver also conducts a multi-point inspection prior to beginning his or her route.
Residents interested in joining the First Student team should call (810) 984-6567 or visit 4035 Dove Road in Port Huron Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. to complete an application. Prospective employees must pass a background check, as well as a drug screen prior to hire.
