Ty Mase began his career in 1995 in Alaska with the Bristol Bay School District as a Secondary Generalist & Activities Director. Prior to coming to Alaska, he worked many years as a teacher on the Navajo Nation. Ty has been the Superintendent for the Lake and Peninsula School District since 2008. Ty has also worked as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Instruction and Assessment.
Ty holds a degree in history and a masters in education from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. His administrative graduate work was from University of Alaska Anchorage.

About the Superintendent of the Year:
As a sponsor of the superintendent of the Year program, First Student wants to recognize these leaders in a special way this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the disruption that has affected all education systems but also the innovative approaches that the superintendents and school districts addressed through radio, television, zoom and take-home packages. These superintendents are the very best in public education and are needed more than ever during this crisis.
