Russ Adams earned his undergraduate degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa and completed a Master of Science in education at Drake University. He also holds Superintendent Licensure in Advanced Studies from Iowa State University.
Adams has served as the superintendent of schools for the MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District for 8 years. He served as the district’s high school principal for 10 years as well as 10 years as middle school and high school principal in Springville and Hartley, Iowa.

As a sponsor of the superintendent of the Year program, First Student wants to recognize these leaders in a special way this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the disruption that has affected all education systems but also the innovative approaches that the superintendents and school districts addressed through radio, television, zoom and take-home packages. These superintendents are the very best in public education and are needed more than ever during this crisis.
