Dr. Khalid Mumin has earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education in Teaching & Curriculum from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University, and an Associate of Arts in English from Northeastern Christian Junior College.
Dr. Mumin has served as a teacher, dean of students, principal and administrator for over 20 years. He possesses excellent leadership skills and has been recognized as a “School Board Savvy Superintendent” nationally and has received several awards over the years.

As a sponsor of the superintendent of the Year program, First Student wants to recognize these leaders in a special way this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the disruption that has affected all education systems but also the innovative approaches that the superintendents and school districts addressed through radio, television, zoom and take-home packages. These superintendents are the very best in public education and are needed more than ever during this crisis.

The superintendent of the Year program, sponsored by First Student and AASA, The School superintendents Association, pays tribute to the talent and vision of the men and women who lead the nation’s public schools.
The 2021 superintendent of the year will be awarded at the National Conference on Education on February 18th, 2021
The national winner of the award is chosen from the four finalists who are selected from state level winners.
