Trunk-or-treat events bring Halloween to parking lots where families gather and kids go from car to car and get candy. This new twist on trick-or-treating is becoming more and more popular in many communities.
But for the town of Dover, New York this year’s trunk-or-treat event included more than just cars. For the first time Location #12373 participated in the event by bringing a 20 passenger bus decorated for the occasion.
Earlier in October, Driver Theresa Brown suggested the location participate in the event and recruited 10 team members to help her in the decorating efforts. Black trash bags covered the windows, orange lights and spider webs hung from the ceiling and a six- foot Frankenstein sat in the driver seat. Other spooky decorations were strategically placed throughout the bus to create a real haunted bus experience for all who entered.
It took the location a couple of days to decorate the bus and many of the team members either purchased or brought in decorations from home to use. Spooky music was played through the bus speakers so all guests could get into the festive spirit. During the event, guests entered the bus through the bus’s rear door and existed out the front.
Approximately 200 children and parents went through the haunted bus, and all children who dared to enter received a candy bar for their heroic efforts.
“I can’t thank my team members enough for the great job they did in decorating the bus,” said Assistant Contract Manager Susan Langton at Location #12373 in Dover Plains, NY. “It all came together so nicely. I can’t wait to see what we do with even a larger bus next year.”
