First Student Expands Operations in New York and Washington

October 30, 2018

CINCINNATI — First Student is providing safe and reliable transportation to thousands of additional students in Washington and New York states. The company began serving Tacoma Public Schools and the William Floyd School District on September 17.

In New York, William Floyd needed large bus service for more than 6,000 students after an issue with another transportation provider. First Student stepped in to help the district, leveraging its insights, expertise and resources to restore transportation in less than two weeks.

William Floyd is one of the largest school districts on Long Island. In addition to logistics, First Student hired more than 100 drivers and provided additional training to ensure they met stringent company standards.

First Student is the largest operator of school buses in New York. The company has 54 locations in the state. More than 4,000 employees manage nearly 3,800 routes and a fleet of more than 4,200 buses.

This work shows why First Student is the industry leader. Our experience, processes and best practices allow us to deliver safe, quality and consistent service to support a school district, even at a moment’s notice.

Tacoma Public Schools also selected the company to operate, maintain and manage all its student transportation services for the next five years. First Student will operate a fleet of more than 100 buses.

First Student is the most chosen student transportation provider in North America. In the 2018-19 school year, more than 100,000 additional students are receiving safe, reliable transportation from First Student.

In many of these districts, students are riding new state-of-the-art buses. The company has also introduced new technology, including the FirstView® Dashboard and Parent App. First Student has been a pioneer in developing, designing and investing in technology to ensure a safe ride to and from school.
