School Bus Preventative Maintenance Procedures

As the cornerstone of an effective maintenance program, preventive maintenance minimizes breakdowns, downtime, capital costs and inconvenience.  Our comprehensive maintenance program is designed to fit your district’s fleet usage while incorporating all manufacturer recommended service levels as well as local, state, provincial and federal regulations.  Our program not only provides cost-efficiency and reliability but also ensures that your students ride safe buses.

Maintenance Technicians

We take a comprehensive and systematic approach to technical training and development, knowing this is a critical aspect of superior maintenance performance.  We hire experienced technicians, equip them with the latest tools and diagnostic equpment, and work with them to achieve training and certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This combination provides the basis for maintenance excellence.

Driver Inspection Technology

To ensure the safety of our passengers, First Student drivers perform a pre-trip inspection before each bus run and a post-trip inspection after all students are dropped off. These inspections, conducted using an electronic handheld radio frequency device, gather and report on more than 40 critical safety components. This information feeds our maintenance team and directs their attention to any urgent needs so we can continue to provide reliable, fully-operational vehicles.
